Pregnancy is a season of becoming. Your body changes to make room for someone new, but somewhere amongst the growing and waiting, you are changing too. There is a word for this transition into motherhood - matrescence - the gradual, often complicated transformation of becoming a mother. Whether this is your first baby or another little person joining your family, each pregnancy brings with it a new version of you.
Maternity photographs are a way of honouring that space between what was and what is about to be. The curve of your body, the hands that instinctively find their way to your bump, the anticipation of meeting someone you already know so intimately. Not simply photographs of how you looked while you were pregnant, but something that can bring you back to how it felt to be standing on the edge of everything changing.
There is beauty here, even on the days you cannot feel it.
Pregnancy doesn’t always feel beautiful. It can be uncomfortable, exposing and exhausting, and there are days when the version of yourself staring back from the mirror feels unfamiliar. A maternity session isn’t about pretending otherwise. It’s about giving yourself permission to romanticise this chapter for an hour or two - to step out of the appointments, the aching hips, the restless nights and the endless waiting, and simply be with the little person you are growing.
We’ll slow everything down. Maybe wander through the long grass in the last light of the day, stand barefoot in the water, curl up at home with your partner, or let your children cuddle in close around your bump. I’ll gently guide you when you need it, but there is no performance here. Just space to notice the weight of their presence beneath your hands, the instinctive way you reach for your belly, the strange intimacy of knowing someone so deeply before you have ever seen their face.
There is something powerful in choosing to see this season tenderly, even when living it has felt anything but. These photographs don’t need to tell the whole truth of pregnancy, but they can honour one part of it - the love, the anticipation, the closeness, the becoming. A small pocket of beauty to return to when the aches are long forgotten and the baby who once lived beneath your heart is standing beside you.

Absolutely! Maternity sessions are about celebrating your growing family, so partners and siblings are always welcome to be involved. If you do decide to bring along siblings, your session will be charged at my ‘Family’ session rate.

The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and confident. Flowing dresses, knitwear, linen and clothing that gently highlights your bump all photograph beautifully. I’ll send over a styling guide after booking to help you choose outfits that suit both your personal style and my photography style. I also have a small selection of client wardrobe pieces for Mamas that you are welcome to use.
